Summer Nights Printmaking

July 12, 2017 to July 26, 2017 (3 Wednesdays, 6 pm – 9:30 pm)

3 classes (Wednesdays)
Meghan Pohlod //
Maximum 8 participants
$180 for SNAP members // $198 for non-members

Enjoy the outdoors during this summer evening workshop by turning your nature sketches and drawings into intaglio prints. Participants will draw outside and gather inspiration to create a drypoint plate in neighbouring Oliver area parks, gardens and from the river valley’s scenic views. Afterwards for the following week in SNAP’s Printshop learn how to turn your drawings into a collagraph plate. On the third evening participants will print their plates side by side to create a suite of nature inspired diptych prints or a series of layered intaglio images. Participants will use the outdoors as their inspiration for their image making and will be taught how to translate what they see in front of them into an intaglio plate. Learn how to create both collagraph and drypoint plates, mix ink and print an edition on the printing press. All levels of ability and experience are welcome. Please dress accordingly for the weather and be prepared to work outside for a portion of the first class.

Hand Cut Screen Stencils

August 22, 2017 to August 24, 2017 (6 pm – 10 pm)

2 classes (1 Tuesday & 1 Thursday)
Andrew Benson //
Maximum 8 participants
$144 for members // $158 for non-members

Get back to the basics and learn one of the most direct screen printing processes by creating your own hand cut screen stencils. Before the age of photo-emulsions and UV exposure units cutting screen stencils by hand was an industry standard in graphic design for colour separation. The results were the glorious vivid designs we associate with this iconic printing method. This evening workshop will introduce participants to this immensely satisfying technique, which reveal the idiosyncrasies of the mark of the hand. Local Designer, Andrew Benson will demonstrate the process of screen printing and how to hand cut both intricate and simple stencils out of a variety of materials. Participants will explore cutting, aligning, layering hand-cut screen stencils to create multi-colour prints.
