SNAP (Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists) is a non-profit artist-run centre with a mandate to promote printmaking as an art form. SNAP comprises a gallery and print shop, offering the public and artists the opportunity to view exhibitions on the variety of print techniques and print for educational and artistic pursuits.
SNAP’s summer job experiences are designed to offer post-secondary students an opportunity to actively participate in a flexible work situation at SNAP Gallery. They serve as a vehicle for participants to reinforce their professional identity through practical application in their chosen field and to facilitate the exchange of ideas between academic and cultural communities.
SNAP runs several Community focused events over the summer including drop-in workshops for Mother’s Day, DRAW 2012 and this year, a one day Printmaking Appreciation event in conjunction with our 30th Anniversary in August. Tasks and responsibilities for these events vary from: planning and organizing all aspects of the program and event, and coordinating with media, co-hosts, volunteers, sponsors and partners, to planning activities, sourcing and purchasing supplies, making examples, creating a buzz about the events, putting together supplemental information and references for further exploration and information. As the lead staff member coordinating these events, this position fully exposes the student to a fast-paced working environment utilizing a high level of organization and planning.
Duration and Compensation: This position is scheduled to commence on May 7th and run until August 28, 2012. It is 35 hours per week at a pay rate of $12.00 per hour. These positions are subject to funding. Applicants must be post-secondary students, 30 years of age or under, planning to resume studies in the Fall.

SNAP is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and as a result we will be putting on two exhibitions that require more effort and organization that normal: an Artists’ Book Exhibition and Printmaking off the Wall – a 30th Anniversary Special. The Special Exhibition Assistant will be the lead staff member on installation, de-installing and coordinating the logistics of brining the work in and shipping it out. This requires communicating with artists, coordinating shipping, documentation, assisting the curating of the exhibitions., organizing volunteers to assist with the installation and organizing the public lecture and presentation. The Special Exhibition Assistant will also work with the communication coordinator to actively promote the exhibitions and inform the public about the uniqueness of this opportunity.
