Silkscreen
“Pop art is a way of liking things.” —Andy Warhol
Silkscreen is your chance to channel your inner Warhol. Dating from about AD221 in China, screenprint has moved from images of the Buddha to band-posters and t-shirts, and become part of our daily lives. In this class, we will transfer images to a mesh screen using light-sensitive emulsion and an exposure unit. The screen is then washed to remove the unexposed emulsion and then ink is forced through the stencil onto paper using a long squeegee. Students will learn the fundamentals of the process including the history, equipment, colour separation, image transfer, and ink application. Over the 8-week course, students will produce multiple colour images and emerge with their own screenprints and all training necessary to screenprint independently at SNAP.
